Meet David Alexander
the man behind the
scenes
Born a "Toehead" &
raised in the beach communities of Southern California, David Alexander started
out his life as a "water baby", swimming and surfing from a young age.
Although his mother had been a budding opera singer in her youth, David had
little exposure to the theater world & thought little of it until he was
given the opportunity to sing a solo in a grade school choral concert. His
performance received a standing ovation & quite literally stopped the show.
That was it! He was bitten by the "show business bug", and he diligently
searched out additional performance opportunities. These arose in the form of synchronized
swimming exhibitions, high school & college dramatic shows (working both as
director & performer) and an extensive list of regional & community
theater productions where he honed his talents in roles that ranged from bi
t
& chorus player to lead characters in Twelfth Night, Godspell, & Cabaret
. His 6'7"stature, natural grace & exceptional flexibility did not go
unnoticed & he was soon tapped as a feature dancer in the musicals, Man of
La Mancha, Guys & Dolls, Carnival, & Mame. Dance became his first
& foremost love, and he proceeded to study with some of the top Los Angeles
dance instructors, Danny Daniels for tap, Steven Peck & Denon Rawls for
jazz. He was even invited to join special classes given at MGM Studios. His
career continued to advance with offers to choreograph & perform in various
independent theatrical productions. During one stint as an emergency replacement
dancer for a dinner theater production, David met fellow performer, Phillip
Huber, whose principle profession was puppeteer. Here was a unique theatrical
art form both curious & intriguing to David, who had an instant affinity for
puppetry's emphasis on movement projected through inanimate objects. David's
further exploration into this field led him to work with Tony Urbano Productions
where he assisted Mr. Urbano in marionette performances & also puppeteered
for a national
McDonald's commercial. Within a few years, David felt it was a "natural
transition" to team up with Phillip Huber to form their own company, The
Huber Marionettes. In his present position, David contributes to the company's
success in many guises including choreographer, CO-director, manager, publicist,
accountant, & performer.
